Wall Painting on Saturday 10th and Sunday 11th October

Wall Painting on Saturday 10th and Sunday 11th October
With the weather forecast looking good, we’re going to continue the painting this weekend.

If you can spare some time on Saturday or Sunday, even just an hour, please will you come and join the painting party? If there’s a particular time you can manage, it could be handy to let us know, so that we can coordinate. We’ll then know when to check that there are enough supplies; deal with any problems etc.

Otherwise just come along when you can, any time between 9am and 5pm and join in. It’s likely that there will be one or more people there already, but if not, the paint, rollers and other accessories will be in the front drive of No.3 (or otherwise No.2) Colliter Crescent, next to the lane. Water is available from an outside tap at No.2.

When you finish, please will you return the equipment back to the relevant driveway? There’s no need to pack everything away - just enclose rollers and trays in a plastic bag, or bin bag, tied shut, so that they do not dry out.

Please will you take care to clear up paint splashes as they occur? There are buckets of water and plenty of cloths. If it gets on to soles of shoes, they likewise need to be cleaned so that we leave the lane as tidy as we can. Please take extra care not to get paint on to the driveways of No.3 or No.2.

The plan is to continue the painting clockwise round the lane, from where we reached last Sunday. In general, only paint the wall facing into the lane, including the pebble-dashed wall of No. 3 Colliter Crescent, but not including the tops of walls or coping stones.

Assuming we reach the end, we will probably proceed to a second coat, again working clockwise round the lane. I will attach a sheet of paper to the ‘Wet Paint’ sign where we can record where we have got to - to tell the next people that come.

If you need a break from painting, you can claim a free tea/coffee or cold drink from the Luckwell Pub and we can also use the toilets there. It opens at: 12pm.

Just to be clear, the lane we are talking about is the one opposite the Luckwell Pub, between 132 and 134 Luckwell Road and emerging between 2 and 3 Colliter Crescent.

One other thing: Please take some photos! If you can first check with the people in the shots, it would be good to put some pictures up on the LImP Facebook page.

Thank you

Wall Painting on Sunday 4th October 2015

Wall Painting on Sunday 4th October

If you can spare some time on Sunday, even just an hour, please will you come and join the painting party, while the weather is still good?

Just come along any time, between 9am and 5pm and join in. It’s likely that there will be one or more people there already, but if not, the paint, rollers and other accessories will be in the front drive of No.3 Colliter Crescent, next to the lane.

When you finish, please will you return the equipment back to there and enclose rollers and trays in a plastic bag, or bin bag, tied shut, so that they do not dry out?

There are six sets of equipment and plenty of paint. If by some quirk this is not enough, you can claim back from LImP the reasonable cost of further equipment needed. The paint, Sandtex Cornish Cream smooth masonry paint, comes from Wickes.

If you need a break from painting, you can claim a free tea/coffee or cold drink from the Luckwell Pub and we can also use the toilets there. The normal opening time is 12pm, but I am hopeful that the landlord will make it available to us from 11am.

Just to be clear, the lane we are talking about is the one opposite the Luckwell Pub, between 132 and 134 Luckwell Road and emerging between 2 and 3 Colliter Crescent.

One other thing: Please take some photos of this great undertaking!

Thank you

Wall Painting for the Greenmarsh Walkway

Wall Painting for the Greenmarsh Walkway
Further to the recent update, we have decided to press ahead with painting this wall, possibly as soon as Saturday 3rd October (though other weekend dates are possible). This is on the advice that the weather is likely to deteriorate through October.

We have created some leaflets to distribute locally - the design can be viewed here. Could you help by putting them through some letterboxes? The immediate surroundings of the footpath are the most relevant, i.e. in and around lower Luckwell Road and Colliter Crescent. If so, please email info@luckwell-improvement.org.uk to let us know asap. We will provide you with the relevant quantity. Thank you!

Thank you if you have already offered to help with the painting. If you are considering joining the painting party (please do!) will you let us know, by emailing info@luckwell-improvement.org.uk?

The information we need is as per the leaflet, i.e:

Name

Address

Mobile no.

Sat 3 Oct am/pm
Sun 4 Oct am/pm

Sat 10 Oct am/pm
Sun 11 Oct am/pm

Sat 17 Oct am/pm
Sun 18 Oct am/pm

Sat 24 Oct am/pm
Sun 25 Oct am/pm

Please mark all the times you could manage. This does not commit you – it simply allows us to assess which day will be best to schedule the painting. We will also check the weather and then confirm.

Thank you

LImP Update 26-Sep-2015

Let’s Walk Bedminster
LImP is one of the partner organisations in the Let’s Walk Bedminster project. We have been awarded a total of nearly £5000 for our current projects in that connection. Tomorrow morning, Sunday 27th September, LImP is one of a number of organisations making a short presentation at the Tobacco Factory about the progress of our Let’s Walk Bedminster projects. The event is at 9.30am (coffee from 9am) and LImP’s presentation slot is at 10am. Please show your support for LImP by attending, if you are able.

Planters on Duckmoor Road and lower Luckwell Road
This is the first of our current Let’s Walk Bedminster funded projects. High quality custom planters will be constructed outside eight shops and businesses on Duckmoor Road and lower Luckwell Road, similar to those installed on North Street. Construction is scheduled to begin in the week commencing 9th November.

The planters will be located at: PB Accountancy, Highcroft Vets, Westway Cleaning Services, Rachael Staddon Hairdressing, A1 Cafe, Royston Garden News, Luckwell Hotel and Winterstoke Garage 95.

If you are interested in taking part in the initial planting and/or subsequent upkeep of these planters, please contact LImP. It should be a worthwhile and enjoyable way of improving our local environment for the benefit of all of us.

Wall Painting for the Greenmarsh Walkway
This is the second of our current Let’s Walk Bedminster funded projects. Opposite the Luckwell Hotel (Luckwell Pub) on lower Luckwell Road is a footpath which is the beginning of a walking route, dubbed ‘The Greenmarsh Walkway’, along paths and lanes to Gores Marsh Park and beyond to Ashton Gate and Greville Smyth Park.

The footpath is flanked by unlovely breeze block walls. LImP will be brightening this up by painting these walls. It will be a community activity, undertaken by volunteers one weekend in October. The choice of day will depend very much on the weather.

If you would like to help with painting these walls, please will you contact LImP stating your availability over October weekends? You don’t need to commit fully to taking part, but we’d like to know if the prospect interests you. It will make a big difference to that footpath and anyone helping to bring it about is sure to experience the ‘feel good factor’.

LImP Update 3-Jun-2015

Third Annual General Meeting
Please support the AGM next Tuesday 9th June and claim your FREE drink. Non-members are welcome to observe, or to join as a member on the night – also FREE. The meeting begins at 8pm, in the Greville Room of the Hen and Chicken, North Street. Formal business will be kept to a minimum, making this an opportunity instead to learn about and discuss the various projects and plans which LImP is working on at the moment. Hear how we are raising funds for new fencing for the park, a community garden in St Adhelm’s churchyard, planters to brighten up the shops on Duckmoor Road and more.

The organisation’s trustees will need to be elected/re-elected at the meeting. Nominations should be sent to LImP by 23:59 on Sunday 7th June. We welcome nominations for new trustees. It is a very worthwhile thing to do for the local area and a chance to take part in decision-making. Committee meetings are held approximately once a month.

St. Aldhelm’s Churchyard
LImP and St Aldhelm’s church have jointly been awarded some funds to create a community garden in the north west corner of the churchyard. The funds were awarded by the Greater Bedminster Community Partnership and supplemented by donations. If you would like to become involved in setting up or subsequently gardening this ‘public allotment’, please get in touch with LImP or St Aldhelm’s.

There is also a more immediate opportunity to help improve the churchyard this weekend, at a garden tidy-up on Saturday 6th June. If you’d like to have a go at tackling some of the overgrowth, or to help in other ways, please do come along for as long or short a time as you wish between 9.30am and 4.30pm. I am told that tea and coffee will be ‘free flowing all day’.

Luckwell Park Green Community Day

Luckwell Hanging Basket Scheme
We are promoting a floral hanging basket scheme in Greater Bedminster. The scheme is supported by the Better Bedminster Community Chest and Bristol City Council. There will be a free hanging basket making workshop during the Luckwell Park Green Community Day event. The workshop is being led by local professional gardener Julie Arnold of Greenworks.

Sign up in advance and the first 50 applicants resident to BS3 will receive all that you need free of charge including installation of a bracket (on a street-facing side of your home). Brackets are being installed by a professional handyman from Handyman South West, hswpropertymaintenance.co.uk. If you're interested, please just let us know.
