Tuesday 6th November – open meeting in the Luckwell Pub (Luckwell Hotel) at 8pm - ALL WELCOME

LATEST MEETINGS
There was an open meeting on the evening of 25th September. The main matters discussed were:

* Publicity through leaflets
* Publicity through events attached to Luckwell Primary School
* Repair of roundabout
* Items for discussion with Landscape Architect
* Feedback from the recent Luckwell Primary School PTA meeting
* Membership of VOSCUR
* Funding application for Community gardening and Hanging basket workshop event(s)

COMMUNITY GARDENING EVENT/HANGING BASKET WORKSHOP
The panel of the Better Bedminster Community Chest has recommended an award of £1000 towards the Community gardening and Hanging basket workshop event that we are planning in the park for the Spring. We are optimistic that the local councillors will approve this when they meet on 23rd October.

SHRUBS
The dense shrub borders of the park have been drastically cut back. We are experimenting with a much more ‘open’ look to the park as there have been concerns about it being too secluded. The effect has been largely welcomed but it seems that it will not take long for the shrubs to become very tall and dense again. On this basis, we are considering putting forward a proposal to remove many of them and replace with more manageable species.

ROUNDABOUT
The roundabout had ground to a halt, but has now been repaired.

‘MASTER’ PLAN
Following a most productive meeting with Alex Fraser, Landscape Architect, work has begun in earnest on a ‘Master’ plan for the park. This will be evolved over the coming weeks. It is vital that we have a long term vision for the future of the whole park, so that the step-by-step changes we are able to make in the short term are given a sense of direction. It will also give weight to future applications for funding.

Update 23rd September 2012

FORTHCOMING DATES
Tuesday 25th September – open meeting in the Luckwell Pub (Luckwell Hotel) at 8pm - ALL WELCOME

Best Of Bedminster show (BOB) - Cancelled
BOB has been cancelled. It was to have taken place on Saturday 6th October and LImP had been considering exhibiting. At Tuesday’s meeting, we will decide whether to take a stall at the North Street Green event set for Saturday 13th October instead.

LATEST MEETINGS
There was an open meeting on the evening of 28th August. The main matters discussed were:

* Budget available for play equipment this year
* Brief for new play equipment in terms of ‘play experiences’, with an age range of Under 12s
* Architect involvement for a long-term strategy
* Sketch plans of the park
* LImP’s “motto”
* Luckwell Primary School to receive mail for LImP
* New leaflet and leaflet dispensers for the park

There was an open meeting on the evening of 11th September. The main matters discussed were:

* Appointment of landscape architect
* Improvements requested to facilitate Bike polo on the hard court
* Agreement of the new motto “Re-energising Luckwell Park and its surroundings”
* North Street Green event, 13th October
* Community gardening funding for the autumn
* Hanging basket workshop for the spring

LANDSCAPE ARCHITECT
We are delighted that Alex Fraser, landscape architect, has become involved. He is going to create an overall plan for the park, based on the many ideas which have come forward. He is also going to advise on how the proposals for play equipment will best fit in with that overall plan.

BIKE POLO
Representatives of the Bristol Bike Polo community attended the last meeting. They have recently been enjoying a few games on the hard court. Andy “Cab” Green, organiser, describes it as “a fast and exciting game, pretty much inclusive to anyone who rides a bike (with ages from 12 to retirement in our group)”. They encourage newcomers and generally play on Tuesday and Thursday evenings (not always in Luckwell Park).

The bike polo “wish list” for the hard court was brought to the meeting and the trustees expressed a willingness to accommodate the wishes in the plans for the park, as funds allow.

BANK ACCOUNT
LImP now has a bank account and has made the initial deposit of the Better Bedminster Community Chest money which was awarded earlier in the year.

Tuesday 11th September – open meeting, ditto
Tuesday 25th September – open meeting, ditto
Saturday 6th October – LImP stall at the Best Of Bedminster show (BOB)

LATEST MEETING
The founding trustees met on the evening of 14th August 2012 to sign the constitution and thus formally launch the group. John Knowlson (Parks Play and Youth Officer, Bristol City Council) was also present. The main matters discussed were:

* Play equipment
* Finances
* Consultation
* Bristol Parks Forum
* LImP Bank account
* New leaflet
* Gate into Hard Court
* Spring gardening event

BANNER
We have put up a 10ft banner in the park to ask for ideas for improvements. There will be another similar banner going up by the entrance to Luckwell Primary School.

PLAY EQUIPMENT
The main improvements envisaged for Phase I, for completion by March 2013, are in installing additional play equipment in the Play Area. We are delighted that John Knowlson from the City Council has pressed the accelerator on this. We will be visited very soon by a number of play equipment companies and they will make their proposals to us, to match our Phase I budget. This will then go to public consultation.

NEW GATE
Also as part of Phase I, we are planning to install a gate to allow direct access between the Hard Court and the Play Area, without the need to go out into the street.

BOUNDARIES
We are keen to reduce the very thick shrubs and bushes in the Play Area and lay more grass instead. It is thought that the park is too ‘hidden’ at present. We are interested in receiving feedback on this point. If/when this goes ahead, the clearance might be done as a community activity.

Founding Trustees

Would you like to be a founding trustee of LImP?

The founding trustees will be signing the LImP constitution into being on the evening of Tuesday 14th August. If you would like to be a founding trustee, please make yourself known by Friday 10th August (even if you cannot attend the meeting).

The founding trustees will hold office until the first AGM, when elections will take place. This is likely to be in early 2013. In the meantime, there is still the possibility that additional trustees could be co-opted.

At present, it is proposed that the founding trustees of LImP will be: Sarah Herbertson, Robert Marson, Debbie Smith, Emily Owen, Kevin Jones and Val Brooks.

PUBLIC CONSULTATION
We will be consulting widely on our plans for PHASE I of improvements. This phase takes us up to Spring 2013. There will be a further leaflet going out to local households and we plan to have a stand at the Best Of Bedminster show in the autumn. We will draw consultation on PHASE I to a close in mid-October 2012, so that we can then move to implementation in conjunction with the City Council and Luckwell Primary School.
